After the Second World War, Culzean became a place Dwight Eisenhower could return to, not simply a place that remembered him.

When Culzean Castle passed into the care of the National Trust for Scotland in 1945, rooms on the top floor were set aside for Eisenhower in recognition of his role as Supreme Allied Commander in Europe. He later stayed at Culzean, including while serving as President of the United States. The relationship was lived as well as commemorated.

Culzean's position above the Firth of Clyde and the scale of Robert Adam's architecture make the Eisenhower connection unexpectedly personal by comparison. His story belongs to private rooms within the castle rather than to a conventional military monument.
