Dewar's American story began before Aberfeldy Distillery opened, when the family whisky found an early audience across the Atlantic.
The Dewar family whisky business began in Perth and expanded rapidly under John Dewar's sons. An unexpected high-profile gift in 1891 helped draw attention to the brand in the United States, and American recognition followed. The family built Aberfeldy Distillery in 1898 to produce the single malt that became central to its blends. By the time the distillery here opened, America was already part of the Dewar story.
The distillery and the Dewar family business belong to different stages of the story. The production spaces show whisky-making in Highland Perthshire, while the heritage material points to a business that had already begun looking far beyond Scotland.
